Causes of Joint Pain
Joint pain is a very prevalent ailment also known as arthralgia. It may affect one joint or many in the body. Joint pain can be caused by injuries, infections, arthritis, diseases, drug reactions and more. No matter what the cause of your joint pain it can be very troublesome and can impact the quality of your life.

Joint pain symptoms differ widely depending on the cause. Warmth in joints, stiffness, swelling, and/or pain may indicate an inflammation caused by an injury or osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis or bursitis. The same symptoms could also signify an infection in the joint.

Arthritis is one of the leading causes of joint pain. Osteoarthritis (a breakdown of cartilage in a joint) and Rheumatoid arthritis (an autoimmune disorder characterized by painful joints and stiffness) are the most common types of arthritis. Osteoarthritis is commonly found in adults over the age of forty-five although it can occur in younger adults who have suffered injuries to the resulting joint. Rheumatoid arthritis affects an estimated 2.1 million Americans. With this type of arthritis, the immune cells attack the membrane surrounding the joints causing stiffness, joint pain and loss of use in the joint affected. It is also accompanied by fatigue, malaise, and sometimes fever. Arthritis can be debilitating and requires proper treatment.

Bursitis is another common cause of joint pain. Bursitis occurs when the bursae become inflamed. The bursae are small sacs of synovial fluid that cushion the points where tendons and muscles glide over the bone. This is generally caused from injury or overuse.

Injuries to the joints, most commonly the knees, elbows, shoulders, and ankles, are the leading cause for joint pain. Strains, sprains, and previous joint injuries can cause joint pain. Stretched ligaments, torn cartilages, and other injuries can take a while to heal so don’t push it or you will reinjure the joint again.

These are some of the more common reasons for joint pain but by no means even close to all the causes of joint pain. In doing this research I encountered over 500 reasons why one could suffer from joint pain. Therefore if your symptoms persist, worsen or are accompanied by fever seek medical attention because joint pain can be indicative of something much worse.
